In Taiwan's case they already had a practice run a few years back with the SARS outbreak, so they had rules and stuff like that in place ready to go - it's why Taiwan didn't get a massive spike right at the start. It also helps that a lot of Asian countries are already used to wearing masks during flu season and such, it's not such a big deal for them. They also largely have no problem with disinfecting their hands, having their temperatures taken before entering shops and signing in to enter places. It's very much a 'Let's keep everyone safe!' mentality. I haven't really noticed any anti-vax stuff out here either, though I work in a school, where you had to get jabbed or you couldn't go to work anyway. (No one I know is immunocompromised, so I don't know what would happen in that case.) Taiwan is Taiwan, and China is China. I find it's generally only the Chinese who see it otherwise. It's a great shame that other countries are so weak that they cater to China's out-dated view and don't put them in their place. As for what happened in Hong Kong, I find it shameful that not more was done. I had friends who took part in the protests, and watched kids getting stopped by armed officers on their way to school for weeks. The only reason my profile has 'Province of China' attached is that MO's system does not list Taiwan separately. 'Province' is entirely wrong anyway, the registered tag should be 'Republic of China'. China are starting to make noise about the chances of invading Taiwan, and have been deliberately stepping up intimidation by flying aircraft too close to the island and having their ships out 'training' more often within the past two years. As a result Taiwan has had a couple air raid practice runs in the past couple years, you know, setting off the warning sirens so people know what to do if the worst happens. It's kind of like earthquake drills.
