Was digging through old topics (heh) and found this one, and boy did the OP ever speak to me. I'm 39 and I'm finding this incredibly frustrating. People my age or in their 30s who aren't otaku almost inevitably think I'm childish because of my interests--and there don't seem to be that many of them who are otaku as it is. I look a *lot* younger than I am, especially if I shave, and I get along awesomely with people in their 20s... until they find out how old I am, at which point they're usually either creeped out or just not interested. And because of the way the demographics in anime/manga fandom are, I have to be *really* careful that anyone I'm talking to is actually over 18. Hell, I get really hesitant about even sending a friend request or message to anyone much younger than I am on here out of fear that merely attempting to *contact* them will creep them out. I don't want to be "that guy". But even with women who like "older" men, or who like roleplaying an "onii-chan" type of relationship, I get the feeling they're thinking like "five, ten years older at most". Not like "almost old enough to be my father". Regardless of how young I look. It sort of invests me with a desire to find "that one person" sooner rather than later... because I turn 40 in March, and even though that's only about six months older than I am now, I'm dreading having to tell people that I'm 40 a lot more than I'm dreading saying "39" or "in my thirties". I just have a feeling that milestone is going to turn off even more people. Anyone else have these kinds of issues? Either as an older fan trying to find love, or as a younger fan being on the other side of the equation?

I don't know am i late for responding in this topic but i like to say in 2 years I'll be 30 years old+ so for now I'm 28 years old in December I'll be 29 years old and i still considered myself a older otaku if you don't mind i like to say this i admit that sometimes i feel like I'm only older otaku in Jacksonville,Florida it's sad i know don't worry it doesn't bother me like i said only sometimes i feel like I'm only older otaku in Jacksonville,Florida & sometimes i don't feel like I'm only older otaku in Jacksonville,Florida if that makes sense. & yes i know so far for now that my collection is small/pretty small compare to you regular otaku if you want to compare my collection to you regular otaku since some if not most or all of you have a lot of awesome stuff when i have a small/pretty small collection compare to you regular otaku if you want to compare my collection to you regular otaku and if i do end up hanging out with fellow otaku like me i admit I'm a bit nervous when my collection is small pretty small collection compare to you regular otaku if you want to compare my collection to you regular otaku. If that makes sense and i do apologize for the repeats just wanting to say how i feel anyway in 2 years I'll be 30 years old if it makes any differences :).

38 - Rediscovered all my love for anime about 5 years-ago with Pokémon and then this beautiful girl of a vocaloid appeared and made it impossible to ever leave. My only worry with it is Hatsune Miku is 16.
