Things I Learned By Going To Conventions

These probably won't apply to everyone, but some might to a few: Official merch can be found cheaper online, but buying artists' work at the con is fun. Your cosplay will get more attention if it's a more obscure/less cosplayed character or if you're part of a group cosplay that hangs out together. Thank everyone who asks to take a picture of you. Those pics of you are their memories of you so don't act irritable. Don't act rudely toward someone because they're cosplaying a character you hate. Don't take pictures with people who are obviously not part of the convention unless you feel comfortable with it; it is absolutely okay to decline. Be on time to photoshoots; the actual photography won't start right away but the group might change locations, you might not make it in a lot of the shots, and you just don't want to hold everyone else up. If you've enjoyed talking to someone, it's not weird to ask to add them on instagram or get other contact info. It's still fun to go to cons alone and not have to compromise with others. Spend the first few hours (or most of the con) wandering, learning your way around, and seeing/meeting other people. Panels are great, but if you don't make it because you unexpectedly found something else, don't worry. Also, asking another cosplayer for directions is a great way to meet others. Pack light for when you're walking around. You'll be carrying your bag for hours. Find the nearest 24 hour food joint right away.

It's really hard to use your phone when you cosplay with gloves. Also a LOT of characters wear gloves. Also duck and cover when someone yells gyrados in the middle of a large crowd. They will charge.

I learned some people are cool but can also get crazy. I had to dip on some guy I met because he got super drunk and wouldn't stop bugging me about hanging out when I needed to get to the parking garage I was using in like 15 minutes x_x. Security came around and that's when I dipped. I felt bad but like I legit had to goooooo.

People tend to forget their personal hygiene... So I always bring a face mask anyplace where there is a large number of people.

I had my first experience this year back in May. A little disappointed to be honest, kind of felt the atmosphere was a bit socially awkward, and this is coming from someone who can be kinda shy/quiet. It was alright but i think going in a big group and cosplaying together makes it so much better.

At cons some circles are super cliquey and for some reason the drama levels can exceed those from high school. Glad im not in it but alot of my friends are. I grab the popcorn and watch. Cosplay is not consent. That is true. But if you walkin around in pretty much a skimpy bikini... common sense. Youre getting oogled. Dont take offense Bring a phone charger, hot glue gun, sewing kit and ibuprofen. Your feet gonna be hurting ♡ Babypowder your thighs if you got bigguns. Helps chaffing.
