Visit first, learn Japanese/learn how to read, save alot of money because US Dollar to Yen is still pretty one sided.

step 1: Learn japanese ( you do NOT have to be fluent, just enough to get by without a parlor ). Step 2: Contact the japanese embassy, and inquire about a Tokia Grant. step 3: Win the fate lottery and get accepted ( only about 20 people are accepted each year ). Step 4: Go to Tokai and master japanese. Alternatively: Step 1: Become rich enough to open a business. Step 2: open a branch in Japan and move there to supervise it. Alternatively: Step 1: Save up 20.000$ Step 2: Get a 3 month tourist Visa. Step 3: spend 3 months and get familiar with a certain part of the country that appeals to you. step 4: Get a 6 month Work visa, and a part time job in that same area, while going to the local university studying japanese. Step 5: Complete your School there and apply for citizenship. ( These were the Reccomendations i got from my Japanese teacher at bording school, he himself had went to Tokai on an embassy grant, and got himself a japanese GF while there, after 4 years of school, he and her moved back to Denmark, where the ooh so benevolent government is trying to send her back, due to some BS imigration laws we got... )

I would second on what Hikkikomori said. Plus I did hear that figures are more affordable and easier to find. Even though DVD are not by any means.

I'm going the work visa/study abroad route. Just my own preference I guess.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm looking up available jobs that I could get into over there. Any recommendations?
masuji
Well, in order to get a work visa you have to have a degree usually, or work for a US company with an overseas branch in Japan

Obviously, I'll finish college first.

Finishing College does help a lot. I plan to visit Japan in maybe a year or so when I finish College and see what happens afterwords. :D
