Lucid dreaming

So this is something I want to try but have a basic understanding of. What are some tips people have, what should you be wary of, and what are some personal experiences you've had?

So I've thought about this before but I've never been capable of it. However, I have immensely vivid dreams that I can remember quite easily, but not necessarily control. The chances of it being a bad dream are kinda 50/50, as I've had some wicked bad dreams. Alternatively I have a medication called propranolol for my essential tremors that I was diagnosed with earlier this year that crosses the brain blood barrier and if taken too close to the time I go to sleep induces the most frightening nightmares I've ever had.

If in a dream, one subconscious trigger you can use is flipping a light switch in a lit room. If the lighting doesn't change, and you consciously notice it, it allows you to stay conscious while still in the dream. Also, as someone who practices a lot of mental landscaping and astral projection, it helped me learn how to be at least semi-lucid in my dreams without having to really research anything. I stopped having nightmares after my first reaction to anything adversarial or frightening was to throw an energy wave in its face, then follow up with some kenpo. The downside is I wake up too easily because my adrenaline gets pumping. XD But assuming I don't, I usually become fully lucid, all like "Oh, hey, I'm dreaming. Calm the f*ck down."

Even though I don't have control over what kind of dream I have, I can sometimes realize that I'm dreaming and I'm able to consciously freely explore and interact with the things in my dreams. However, I still can't do literally whatever I want in a dream (like fly around freely or have superpowers)

Well, like lucid dreaming itself, unrestricted movement in dreams takes a little practice. Like I learned how to do that levitation (IN DREAMS) and energy stuff through a combination of actual spiritual energy manipulation (As usual, take it with a grain of salt, you heard it on the interwebs), and astral projection. Movement in my dreams feels similar to astral travel in many respects, and I find a lot of the same things I can do there, I do in my dreams. The trick is being able to do them without concentrating too hard, since that will inevitably wake me up. Although most of you guys aren't grounded in that type of psionics, so I think it's much easier to learn through meditation and visualization practices like the good old "Mind palace" trick. If you can visualize yourself floating around a mental landscape, it becomes easier to pull off that stuff while lucid in a dream, since you have trained your mind to overcome a limitation like that. Honestly though, I'm a generalist, and I think others who are more experienced in lucid dreaming in general might be able to give better tips than I could. Because like most lucid dreaming amatures, I have trouble recalling my dreams, and that is an important skill to learn if you want to practice lucid dreaming. Like Felix suggested, perhaps the best way to build dream recall is to keep a dream journal. I'm just too lazy to do that. XD
