Anime Icons v. Selfie Icons

realmikuhatsune
Something I woke up thinking about this morning for... some reason??? What's your opinion on anime icons vs. selfie icons? What do you prefer and why? Do you feel more inclined to talk to a person with one or the other, or does it not matter? For me, I prefer using anime icons. Not because I dislike showing off selfies, but I don't like that it could potentially be the reason (and ONLY reason) that people talk to me. I mean, I'm not gonna lie and say I've never checked out a persons profile based on how attractive I find them, but I also like to READ their profile and see what they're like before jumping into any conversation. I've had too many messages from strangers who clearly had 0 interest in reading what I've written. I don't really have a preference on who I talk to, but I will say I'm more likely to strike up conversation with an anime icon than a selfie. An icon that's more of an aesthetic or something they like speaks more to me than how they look. Gives me some insight on who they might potentially be!

I...don't really have a preference, doesn't really matter much to me. I honestly don't usually go out of my way to message people unless I just find them to be interesting or if I interacted with them (forums, etc) in some way before. Pretty hard to catch my attention in general. :u Well that being said, I would say if someone had an icon from an anime I liked or something I'd be inclined to check out their profile at the end of the day.

i don't use selfie icon cos of being judge by appearance stuff. i really just want to make some fellow anime fan friends. and also as a human, i often consciously or unconsciously judge people by their selfies. so i try to refrain from it.

this has been discussed before i think if you have a irl picture as your icon (cant stand the term selfie) that means your single and ready to mingle >w> and anime means just friends (mine is different, im not looking for anything serious atm, i just love the picture) so, normally id say 2d over 3d, but *sips coffee*

I prefer to use anime icons on MO and instant messengers. On a few websites I also use at times,my icon is my selfie which half of my face is covered with a Koro-sensei face mask, because there are fewer otaku/anime fans out there,I don't care if a person is passionate about anime or not as long as they are like-minded people with whom I can talk about deep stuff.More often than not, those people also watch some "unpopular" anime like Lain.

I don't have any pictures of myself and I can't stand selfies, so I use this avatar I drew that I use for pretty much everything. I want to put an actual picture on my profile but again, I can't stand selfies... As for gauging whether or not I'm interested in talking to someone, that's a hard one to answer. I'm more interested in girls that have an interesting bio to read than girls that are just pretty. I guess if I'm on the fence on whether to try talking to a girl (either because I'm not entirely sold on her yet or I'm just not in the mood to try to talk to someone new) and she has a cute picture of herself it could convince me to go for it, but a cute picture alone is not going to be nearly enough to sell me on someone. Basically, what Real Miku Hatsune said

In fact, I spend more time reading profiles than talking with people :P.Detailed info will get my attention, I also write a lot in messages and info(though my English isn't that fluent...), lately I learnt to ask a lot of questions based on their info or messages.

I don't really have a preference when talking to friends and just people in general, but I do like knowing what people look like when I gain a more deep interest in them. People can say looks don't matter but I think they do in more romantic situations (but remember, looks are a matter of preference and opinion), otherwise they are just really good friends.
