Yes stay very close to whoever your with, arrange a meeting place and never eat at the con they overcharge the hell out of you. Also always arrive at panels early.

@Lamby, if you can go with friends that is best. Safer that way too. Just let yourself loosen up and have fun. I enjoy going to panels. Make sure not to just wander around. Use your guide and plan out things you want to do. Con staff is very friendly and helpful so don't be afraid to talk with them.
