Why did start watching anime?

You live and learn by watching others make mistakes. That is the one true lesson.

There was a time in my early childhood from the 90s that I vividly remember when all TV shows for kids were anime dubbed in the Filipino language. Paid cable TV was not yet fully available to everyone in the Philippines then. Anime shows were the only age-appropriate shows available, so kids my generation had no choice. We all grew up practically watching the same anime shows. :)

Late last year I finally decided to give it a go. Started with Squid Girl. Then started watching more amazing shows. Anime is brilliant and I don't think I need to explain why to the people here. I never knew what I was missing out on before I started.

My Dad brought home Devil Hunter Yohko, Guyver OVA from his trip to Japan when I was younger. Was hooked ever since.

Because I felt like it. >.> Seriously, I wish I could post a long winded sociological self analysis here, but its as simple as that.

My aunt, who was more like a big sister, used to force me to watch Robotech and Sailor Moon with her. Later, when the Sci-fi Channel started showing anime, she got really into it and started ordering VHS tapes of stuff and we'd watch them together. My mom eventually got me on the same "tape a month" subscription service where I was able to get Akira, Slayers, that Yu Yu Hakusho movie that was released before Funimation picked up the series, etc... I think this was between '91 and '93, so I was roughly 8 or 9 years old.
