Everyone has the right to cosplay who they want to cosplay. Regardless of their height, weight, age, race, gender, and etc. It's not right to judge people on what they love to do. http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bqx9xRFCIAEEchc.jpg http://themetapicture.com/media/cool-comic-geek-woman-fat-costume.jpg

I don't understand number 1 at all. How are they racist against Asians by dressing up as Asian characters they like? Or is that in a general sense, as in people shouldn't cosplay because other westerners are racist? Isn't it a bit hypocritical anyway considering how racist Asians are against Westerners... and other Asians for that matter? 2-4 seem like fair points that I can agree with. 5, I dunno about. Seems a little unreasonable as anime characters generally tend to look extremely young. By that logic only kids should be allowed to cosplay, and good luck getting kids to do them well. Asian do cosplays of characters that look way younger than they are all the time anyway. 6, that's just silly. Nothing about the character changes, even if fat ugly people dress up like them. 7, ehh, anime characters are almost exclusively based on Asian people that much is true, but honestly one could say Asians also don't look like anime characters if you wanna go there. Not unless you count the likes of aku no hana, which no one ever should of course. Asians are much better suited for cosplay sure, but even they need masks and body suits to completely look like an anime character. That said, There's plenty of characters in anime based on western people too. Just sayin.

#1 makes no sense, #2- #7 are applicable to average Easten cosplayers as well, therefore all 7 reasons are pretty much invalid. I am an anime fan who has no reason to hate western cosplayer. #Failracistthread Cosplay is for everyone~ ♡ There are so many variety of anime characters, many anime characters aren't even human. Is this cosplay racist too? jeez http://a.nime.me/0081/7959/dva.jpg

I pretty much agree with what kokoro said, and would point out that even if you decided Westerners could only cosplay Western people, that still leaves them with most of the cast of FMA, Attack on Titan, D-Grayman and Code Geass, since they're mostly from Western or world wide backgrounds. Then of course there are some Western stories that have been adapted into animation by the Japanese. For example Howl's Moving Castle is a Western novel written by a Welsh lady; in fact some of the novel takes place in Wales, ergo Howl and Sophie are Western characters. http://www.nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Howl-4.jpg To go through one by one, 1. Because westerners are racist against Asians. Umm...No. SOME Westerners are racist against Asians, just like SOME Asians are racist against Westerners. 2. Because western cosplayers are not cute. This may be true sometimes, but I've seen some god awful Asian cosplays in my time too, so meh, swings and roundabouts. 3. Because western cosplayers are too masculine. Not always true; in fact quite often Westerners have better figures because they tend to have more natural curves. The hour glass figure is mostly found in Westerners, which is one reason Asians wear Kimono better. 4. Because western cosplayers are too big/wide. Again, this can be true of both, though I'll admit it's more often found in Western culture. 5. Because western cosplayers are look too old. Not always true, and for some characters this can be an advantage. You wouldn't want Ghost in the Shell's Major to look like a twelve year old after all, so it depends on the character as to whether this is an advantage or disadvantage. 6. Because western cosplayers are always ruining the Anime characters I love. That's a personal issue, so if that's how you feel then...that's your problem. 7. Because western cosplayers look nothing like Anime characters. Again, this is not true. It can be argued that, with the different coloured hair and eyes, anime characters are actually more tuned to Western races, who have more varied hair and eye colours. There's also my earlier point about some characters actually being Western in origin or by author design. Just as you can argue a Western person shouldn't portray an Asian character, we can argue that an Asian person shouldn't cosplay a Western character.
