What is considered a classic game?

coolerthanleo1
I have a game cube that's almost as old as I am(I've had it for 15 years) , and I was wondering, is that platform considered classic, or are classics the ones that should by rights be considered antiques?

Games from the Gamecube, PS2, or Xbox era are not considered classic or retro yet. They're old, but not that old either. I think for something to be considered a classic, it has to be at least 20 years old. I'm not saying that era of games was bad or anything. In my opinion, those games revolutionised what games could be.

Personally I'd consider N64 and PS1 era to be classic. Any further back would be considered retro for me.

A classic game is something that has lasting worth. Meaning you could play it despite with our mega computers or PS7. It will still be a great game and one to come back and visit too. One example: https://youtu.be/EHCgRbisPD8?t=1m42s

something that's really rememberable. maybe something from ps1, n64, dreamcast, etc era. i can't really say a lot cause i wasn't born when those consoles came out.

Something with high replay value. Definitely a game youll play for years. That's one of the most important things in my opinion about a game. I consider Super Smash Bros. Melee, Sonic 2 for Sega Genesis, Mario Kart 64 classics for sure.

To me a classic can also be a game that was groundbreaking. Command and Conquer, Wolfenstein, Tetris, Mario. Retro is something totally different. That is getting back (elements from) games that have been considered old and disbanded by the mainstream.

Depends on what you mean by "Classic"? Do you mean something that's "old or retro" or something that just has or might have a lasting effect like "an instant classic" for example. Cause I think a lot can go under the latter. Lol

For me, the classic videogames ended on PS1, Saturn or N64. Even though, they're still really awesome! :o

I think any console/handheld that was released before the year 2000 would be considered retro. So, PS1 and N64 all the way back to the Atari 2600 and the 8bit NES era. If you're looking for a true antique console, then the Magnavox Odyssey or any Pong console from the 70s come to mind.
