Anime style preferences

loli_vampire
I've watched a pretty wide variety of anime over a number of years and I find I've developed a pretty particular taste and tend to not like others. I love the general character style of around the last 10yrs that would probably be defined as moe. I don't mind some more realistic and gritty art styles on occasion like Black Lagoon or Gantz but not as much as newer moe styles. But I'm also maybe a bit odd as I like that moe style mixed with realistic bloody violence and sexuality at times, something like Higurashi for example. I just mean that even though I'll watch some cute slice of life stuff, I don't usually watch much cutesy g-rated stuff. But I don't like a lot of popular stuff like Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Pokémon, etc. because they are way too cartoony and unrealistic. All the fight scenes look like they are made to impress ADHD 12 year olds. I also just don't care much for really old anime anymore because the art just looks horrid. I watched La Blue Girls ages ago and loved it (it's a hentai btw) I tried watching it recently and it just looks horrible. I'm addicted to the modern moe style now. It's like getting used to chocolate mousse but then someone gives you some animal crackers. Those animal crackers were awesome when you were 5 but now you know what something really good tastes like.

Ed Edd eddy still my favorite slice of life. Recently though it's been rezero it was pretty good. I am a bit of a mix when it comes to anime however I have taken more appreciation for slice of life this year along with some of the more older anime that I missed.

I've watched some slice of life I like. I watch some just for a break and something different from more action/drama type anime. Clannad, Chuunibyou, Hyouka (need to finish it), Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai, Oriemo, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, Yuru Yuri, Non Non Biyori, Acchi Kocchi, Sakura Trick, Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai!, and a few others. I still need to finish some of those. I do notice that certain people with a preference for that type of anime and art style often do not like violence and ecchi. I just like to mix it up but my main preference is for dark edgy stuff.

Slice of life just ain't for me. I prefer some more adventure and action type with a good piece of romance. I especially prefer the whole another world type of anime like SAO or No Game No Life whose art is beautiful. I especially like OP MCs but not the wimpy ones because they just piss me off.

yah my favorite are op mc to like kirito (except 2nd arc of second season) one punch man (ultimate opness) and no game no life. and although the unlimited hyoubu kuosuke is technically a side story to the zettai karren children show -which i didnt like- unlimited was actually pretty bad ass

I'm actually pretty bad about this. I like to think that I stumble onto shows that I love, but in reality, if it's got rounder character models, takes place in high school, and has chill slice of life dialogue, I'll love it. Bonus points if it's by KyoAni. I watched Tamako Love Story and was like, "this is unapologetically the greatest and best"

I don't really have a favorite style of art in an anime, I more look for story elements. For me, anime are a lot like video games. If the story is crap, it doesn't matter how good te art is.
