Wannabe Americans?

polocrossebob
So, here in the U.S. Calling someone a weeabo or wapanese is basically saying that they are wannabe Japanese. They like Japan and all of it's facets so much they practically wish they were Japanese. So my question is this, do you think there are people in Japan, or any other country for that matter, that think of America the same way?

Probably not in the same way, but I know there are people who want to come and live in America for the benefits (though there may be fewer with each passing year), I've spoken to a few of them and they are planning on moving to America in the near future. There also isn't something that attracts people the same way that anime does, and we're probably seen as pushy idealistic people to foreign countries.

Who knows, it could be possible but I'm not sure.

It was just an odd thought, I see so many people here who dont give a rip anout maintaining the U.S., their own country, and wish they could live somewhere else. I just wondered if other places were like that. Personally, I have been all around the world, but there is nowhere like the U.S., good bad or indifferent. Nowhere else for me at least.

There's always the possibility but if there are, they would be few in number. Most people from other countries have more pride in their own nationality and country to be obsessed with America. Just as Veriflixt said, anyone desperately wanting to come to America would be mostly because of harsh living conditions or laws that prohibit basic living rights. People in Japan for example love some of the things that America has to offer like our movies and music but isn't necessarily obsessed with our "culture" itself.

Look, the USA is just a country like any other, difference is in that it has various things better than other countries but that doesn't mean we'd love to become American, is just preference. I wouldn't ever change my nationality but if I move to the USA it'd be to study so I can help those I hold dear, something, right now, I can't do due to the current economic/political situation not only my country is facing. So, no, no American wannabes. Just people with dreams that can't be done elsewhere. My case because it's easier and nearer for me to go there.

Yeah that is a thing. Im trying to remember what it is called

Andrew is right it is a thing. I'm not sure what it was called though either but I remember reading about some people in Japan who do it..

Amercanization sucks. Everything starts looking the same. It took away so many traditions from multiple countries. I love it when countries still have their own unique traditions... The only interest I take in America is the entertainment industry i.e. music, movies, tv shows, YouTubers... I wouldn't want to live there though nor does the cuisine or history appeal to me that much. Maybe travel to the big cities some time, like NY or LA, or admire the landscapes... It's a beautiful place and has various climate types combined into one place. (Since it's huge af) I'm more interested in traveling Asia, NZ and Australia though.. And yeah, I don't know a single person who obsesses over America enough to be classified a wanna-be American. Though they definitely exist.

@Xynox - I would say that America is the result of the merging of multiple countries, traditions and people. The reason everything looks the way it does is due to how peoples views have been shaped over time. In most Western countries if you look close enough you can see how everything developed to what it is and how it is changing for the future. As for the question "Wannabe Americans?" In any country you can always find people who want to be [insert group / nationality]. In my opinion it is due to people seeing problems in their own country and having a view that it is done better in another place so it is idealized.
