Churches In Anime

I've noticed in some anime churches are shown, but they never mention Christianity in Anime. Do the Japanese like crosses but not really talk about Jesus? I mean, it makes sense they'll talk about Shinto and Buddhism (the main religions of Japan) but why are Churches just used as settings? I'd like to see an anime form of Jesus for a change

..... Clearly you haven't seen some of the more recent anime. Why would you want to dip into a subject with such controversy around it. The moment it happened and Jesus isn't to Christians or Catholics or whomevers ideal someone is going to raise a stink about it. But anyways moving on. Churches probably exist in anime because like Europeans and Americans we have a fascination with Japan and it culture. Japanese often have a fascination for European and American culture. Sure sometimes they are just setting but Christianity does exist heavily in japan actually. If you recall some of Japanese history , Japanese Christians were hunted down and executed for their religious belief.

Well there are some Japanese Christians in Yokohama and Nagasaki. I'm Christian and I'd like to know how the Japanese view Jesus.

I've always wondered about that too. I read some manga centered around fashion, and crosses are used as a fashion statement (necklaces and such)

Well crosses are used here as a fashion statement too. Most people who wear crosses I don't think really believe in Jesus. I don't have a cross in my home and I love Jesus more than most "Christians"

Well Christianity isn't very popular in Asia in general. In Japan, I believe the statistic is that like less than 1% claim Christianity as their religion. But the 2 main denomination is Roman Catholic at 50900 in 16 dioceses. Then Protestants at ~500000.
