If your friend had a controversial choice...

trahecreations
Everyone talks about supporting their friends and how close they are. Now There are many controversial Choices out there. What if you had a friend who had to make one and have already heard every argument against what they were doing, would you support your friend? Would your own morals come into play? The choices can be anything controversial from abortions, marrying a person for money, getting into politics, wearing white after labor day, faking their death, etc.

Well, understanding comes first during these times of circumstances, some people would like to put their suggestions out there just because they'd like to hear themselves talk, others don't even bother putting themselves in their situation to where they end up missing the whole point of the problem that caused it and why it's hasn't been solved yet. So it'd be best to look through all the scenarios, backlashes and outcome and keep in mind that nothing ever goes according to plan. But in all honesty, just be there for your friend if he or she decides to do it her/his own way, and if mistakes are made, don't ever say. "See what I mean?" instead give them comfort and cheer them up the best way you can.

I am just curious how others respond. I personally have the 'I don't care' approach. That sounds worse than it is. Pretty much I turn to the other person and ask them what they want to do. So far I have been there for two friends who have had babies when everyone else told them not to (this includes going though all those parts a father would go to, plus convincing the family), I have been there for friends who want to have an abortion both in secret and known, I have been there for when my one friend wanted to become a woman (though they still won't answer me on what pronoun I am suppose to us so I use they and them), I was there for my friend when she wanted to leave her husband (everyone was against).... so many others. I find the doctors, go to court, act as a bodyguard, talk them down and cheer them up when they are getting sick to the point death seems friendly. And everytime they ask me "why are you doing all this? Why are you helping me?" and I turn to them and say "That's what friends do. Friends are there by your side no matter what. I would sell my own blood to get up the money you need to do what you need, because I am your friend. I would do almost anything to help a friend."

That's pretty awesome O.O you sound like a fantastic friend! *High-five* I take the " I don't care" approach, too, but, I'm opinionated to my detriment at times, so I'm not completely disposed to "being there always." Like, for instance, my best friend for 7-10 years basically threw his life away for drugs; I don't support that. I tried for the longest time to get him to stop, but he just turned junk-ish, and everyone overdoses around him O.O I wouldn't say that's a "controversial" decision, but it's a stupid one, nonetheless. So, I don't support stupid people. I support those who have rough times or believe they are doing right.

Yeah my extent of doing what they want, ends if what they want can end their lives. I have tied people up for their best interest. Try explaining to rehab why you are at their door with a hogtied junkie.

If a friend of mine was planning to get an abortion, I'd say "Well, enjoy your fiery afterlife, you dick hungry, harlot" and I would cease to be their friend If a friend of mine said "Hey, dude, let's shoot up some heroin", I'd say "Well, enjoy your fiery afterlife, you low life, junkie" and I would cease to be their friend If a fried of mine said "Hey, dude, I'm gay for you, let's be partners" and tried to have anal sex with me, I'd beat the shit out of them and say "Knock that gay shit off dude", and I would cease to be their friend If a friend of mine said "Hey, dude, I found Jesus, let's go burn books on evolution", I'd burn a cross into their skin and say "May the power of Christ compel you, you Crazy Protestant Bastard" If a friend of mine said "Let's go burn down that guy's house- He's a nigger", I'd consider my taste in friends at this point, and beat the shit out of him. Yes, I do enjoy the occasional n-word usage and trolling my black friends, but I hate racism! In most of these scenarios I'd beat the shit out friends with controversial ideas

"When your friend is crying, cry with him. When your friend is worried, you should worry with him. and when your friend has an awkward bowel movement, then you must have an awkward bowel movement too, Shin-chan. If you are a friend, you should be able to share the other’s pain, no matter what. And Shin-chan, if your friend goes down the wrong path… Then, you must stop your friend, even if it ruins your friendship. That is true samurai friendship." Otae to Shinpachi (Gintama)

The Key word here is choice, if you friend chooses to do something that is considered controversial that is their choice. Sure you can throw all the facts and statistics at them and maybe even try to discourage them from going through with it. However in the end it is not your life but theirs so let them live it. Life is all about the choices we make and owning up to them, whether or not they are good choices or not depends on the person. Though naturally i would voice my concerns over the matter be it good or bad, i do so however to look out for them but i just know that the choice itself is out of my hands and hope them the best of luck with said choice.
