What's with all the Jew jokes?????

tsunpaper
All right I have a confession to make... I'm Jewish. Now I love who I am, I love being able to trace my heritage all the way back to ancient Israel. But wherever I go... I am always the subject of Jew jokes (I'll admit some of them are funny) But I really want to know if people mean them in a negative way or not. As far as I can see they don't mean any harm but I don't want it to turn into something where people become Anti-semetic.. (for clarification I am a messianic Jew, meaning I believe in Jesus. So at Passover we focus on Jesus and stuff like that.) Anyways any thoughts on the intent of Jew jokes or even race jokes in general, or am I just being too paranoid? (don't worry I won't be offended)

Don't worry, I to love money.;) Meh... What's with any racial joke? People will always poke fun at what they are not a part of. They'll point out how some people look different, talk different, smell different, taste different ;), anything that's different than the majority... Usually you can tell by the timing and context whether it's meant to be offensive or not. So...What's the problem here? Humans just being human. Personally, I don't care if I'm the butt of a joke, but that's just me. Really, again, it's just about timing and context. Hell, what about fat people jokes? Your momma jokes? Skinny jokes? Blonde jokes?...etc

I guess I let it get to me lol. I am not one to get paranoid in the first place. Since I am the only Jew in my area it was easy for me to see it as offensive. But to them I stick out like a sore thumb. It's not like they are destroying my property. Lol I need to relax. And yes I love me some money too! ;)

Well, it depends. What was said? I mean, this seems like something that you took as a personal attack. It's not like you need to go kill them, but if something was said in an offensive manner you don't need to roll over and just take it either.

The context was meant as a humorous addition to a situation. Which is usually the case. I have never had anyone use it as a personal attack. I guess I was paranoid about it becoming attacks since this has gone on for years. In my area there are a lot of Jew jokes. So when I moved there people just kept continuing with jokes and decided to mess around with me by making me the subject. It's not like I'm being called a dirty Jew or greedy. To give you an idea here is a joke I was told. "why did the Jew go to the football game?" "to get a quarter back." I am the kind of person people mess around with but not in a harmful way. It's not like the way my family bothers me about being an Otaku.

I think its a way to make fun of a minority (I say minority cuz iv only ever met one jewish person so its not ment to sound rude srry @_@!!!) and least in my experience there aren't any jewish people to take offense to the joke. Its silly people make fun with money jokes, jews r good with their money cuz their SMART xD

Lol. It's true, we are few and spread out. I was just paranoid earlier so need to apologize. It's not like you're making joke like "Hitler was right!" or other garbage like that. Stuff like that is offensive. Stuff like me being good with money is a stereotype. I guess making fun of stereotypes is the fun people enjoy, not the offensive garbage that picks at blemishes in history like The holocaust.

South Park was made by Jews lol. Kyle is very relatable to me.

It really does depend on a case by case basis with me. Like some people will throw racial jokes at me and I know they're just playing around but sometimes even that can kinda rub me the wrong way depending on context. Hahaha comedy, always touchy
