Being yourself

jasonthedude
So I think everyone has put on a mask somewhere in there life. I did that too, I'm still doing it in my opinion. How did you all get rid of the mask ? Because ''just be yourself'' is not instant, it has to grow, but how did you make the change ?

Well, people are judgmental little fucks and I'm no exception. There will always be situations where it's wise to not be yourself. You just need to figure out which those are and practice the art of not caring. Peoples' opinion of you don't really matter. Sure there will be those who are going to trash talk and spread rumors but trust me. Those are the ones who care the most about their public image and are the least themselves. There are those who will insult you directly, too. They are not really better than the ones who polish their image whenever they can. At least they're braver. But the majority will walk away. They'll judge you but they won't hate or even dislike you. They'll just accept that you're not here to please them and that people are different. Those are the only ones that matter anyway. You'll also meet the best friends being yourself.

That's a pretty thoughtful comment xynox. I have a long way to go in discovering those moments you talk about, but ah well, it's not the end of the world

I think people, in todays standards, are afraid to be themselves because they're afraid of what other people think of them. We always say that others opinions of you don't matter when in fact, it matters a lot to people deep inside (with a few exceptions, myself included). To be honest, it's someone else's opinion that run the world. For example, if you don't make a good impression to certain people, you won't get hired to that job you want. You can't be a complete dick to the hiring manager and expect them to invite you to work for said job. You can't fart in public & dig in your ass and impress the person you like. You have to dress nice, act nice, be educated, be polite, and so forth. Also, in a different direction, a lot of people fear the word Judge. like if someone judges you, automatically, you assume that it's a bad thing and you assume that it's etched in stone. it's not. I judge people constantly. doesn't mean that it's bad nor does it mean it cannot change. Judge = (first) impression. You may not have a second chance to make a first impression but you can change how they think of you in the second or third or etc... Long story short, it's depends on who do you want to impress. If you wanna impress yourself and fuck everyone else's opinion, your circle of friends will probably be small, but your friends who stick by you will generally know you best and be the most comfy around you. If you wanna impress your friends, you'll have tons of superficial friends that come & go like the wind. If you wanna impress your boss, you'll succeed financially, but have zero social life. So pick your path or make your own.
