Not much of an Anime person nowadays...

I used to be a very big Anime fanatic. I watched Anime such as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,Lucky Star,Clannad,Higurashi,Darker Than Black,Gurren Laggan and so forth. Over time my love for anime began to fade, as I keep running into moe blobs, harems, fanservice,DBZ Shonen Wannabes with 200+ episodes, and Anime based off of light novels. I feel as though anime has really lost alot of it's flare, especially seeing that many companies that localize anime has come and gone. Another thing that killed Anime for me is the fact the majority of ppl prefer subs and bash on dubs, or may bash ppl who watch dubs. I watch dubs since I bore quickly of always reading subtitles. I have no problem with ppl who watches subs, but I know I can't enjoy anime with another unless they have no problem with dubs. Lately I've been watching alot of American cartoons, especially the modern ones such as Adventure Time,Regular Show,Gravity Falls,Star Vs The Forces of Evil,Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi and so much more. I think to myself it's nice watching animation without the boobs, ass and other unnecessary fanservice being thrown in my face, as well as the serenity of not dealing with ppl who hate dubs. Not only that but these cartoons seem to do alot of things anime isn't doing, such as telling an interesting story or have maniacal shit happen without sexual stuff. Sure they're dirty jokes and adult humor, but it's not on the annoyance scale of many anime. Anyway I feel anime has really lost it,not only that but many of it's fans never even want to socialize with one another,or would have autism,or mental illness of some kind. I'm not saying I'm perfect or that ALL ppl who're into anime are like that, but it's just what I'm seeing. I wonder why I still hang around, seeing that the chances of making new friends as well as finding a girl is nonexistant. Even if someone is interested, what're we going to talk about? I pretty much gave up anime, which further validates my point. Nevertheless I'm here and I'll post, and laugh at whatever crazy shit happens around here, because it sure does happen alot. Sorry for the wall of text, this took far longer than I hoped, and I know some ppl will come in here raging, but I couldn't give a rat's ass, ppl get asshurt over the dumbest of reasons. Anyways I'm heading to bed, it's 3:30am where I'm at.

People go through phases with anime. Some wave in and out and some eventually fall off the bandwagon. That's totally okay and understandable :^) Besides, Adventure Time is better than 99% of anime.

Lot of anime is complete crap anyways so who can blame anyone for loosing interest in it. It's cool and interesting when you're new to it because it's so radically different from western stuff, but if you watch enough of the stuff for long enough and start to really scratch the surface you start to see that a lot of it is just garbage. Far too many works out there are shameless cash ins on other popular works. Then you've got predictable story lines, characters with little or no depth, shameless pandering, lazy almost forth wall breaking exposition dumps that treat the viewers like idiots, ridiculous often times nonsensical melodrama, little restraint on action/violence that makes scenes meant to be serious or intense border on comedic. Then there's the practice of treating anime as advertisements for the manga they're based on, which often leads to horribly dragged out pacing, and often times a complete lack of any closer as they intend for viewers to go read the manga to see how the story ends, if the manga is even finished. This is one of the reasons why I prefer SoL stuff, because it's hard to screw up moe.

Going to play devil's advocate here. I think anime just keeps getting better. I don't know what things you guys have been watching but it must be shite compared to the things I watch. Then again, maybe not. I don't get the fascination with Adventure Time. A friend suggested it to me so I gave it a couple episodes. I can see the appeal for kids.. But if I compared it to the toons of past, Ren and Stimpy, Invader Zim, Courage the Cowardly Dog.... I just don't see how Adventure Time is all that great. But it's all a matter of opinions anyway. *shrug*

Yeah I have phases where I do not watch as much. Like Hollywood Japan turns out tons of recycled crap. Some are so formulaic I can literally predict the next lines or scene in some series. Now like verucassult said better stuff comes out all the time that rises above the noise. Attack on Titan and Sword Art online are good examples IMHO.

Well, you are pretty much only mentioning mainstream anime, so there is no surprise there. Sure there is a lot of recycled crap anime. I don't watch 99% of it because I don't personally find it interesting. But there are some great anime out there if you look for it. I also agree with verucassault in that American animation used to be a lot better in the days of Ren and Stimpy. I can also admit adventure time has its place as a good animation, but most American animated shows are straight up comedies or for kids.

^ Not sure if that's sarcasm or not. I've read everyone's posts, some agree with my op while others have dissenting opinions which is fine. I made this topic just to kind of get this off my chest. I'm not bashing anime or anything along those lines(incase that's what makes me come off as)I'm just merely saying I'm not feeling anime anymore is all. If you feel the same way, then we agree awesome, if you disagree I won't rip you a new one for it, everyone is allowed to have their own opinions. Nevertheless I feel better knowing I've come to this conclusion, as to why I kept growing bored and frustrated with the anime I keep running into, they're some good ones like Kill La Kill and Akame No Kill. But those are VERY few in the clutter of junk. Nevertheless I'll continue on watching American Cartoons, while watching the occasional interesting dubbed anime out there.
