So, to give this some context, right now I'm going to be homeless for the second time in my life, and I was curious to the older MO users what your jobs/careers are? I'm interested in expanding what could potentially be my horizons as far as making a living would be to see if there are any other options that I might not notice to potentially assist myself in this situation. I'll start if off by saying I'm an assistant manager at Domino's, and soon to be taking classes to get my guard card and work for a local security company. Hope to hear from a lot of different people!

Well, right now I am cleaning, but I hope to job change at some point. I recently completed a CELTA, so I'm looking to become an English teacher again.

I work as a civilian federal worker with the US Navy. It's a nice gig, I guess. They give you benefits as soon as you get the job.

I'm in the military, it might not sound like your thing but it could be a really helpful start to getting you a career weather you stay in or not. The main benefits if you don't already know free health care, college money which you don't have to use unless you want to you can get tuition assistance too they highly encourage education, also what I consider a benefit is you could live on base for free or they'll give you a basing housing allowance to live off base where ever you want. If you have any questions feel free to ask there is a lot to the military and it's different branches c:

If you're good, graphic design is great. I'm not even 18 yet and due to some excellent training and luck I've done alot of real work and can become a full time designer at any given moment. If that sounds like your thing it's a really fun career and quite rewarding.

I tried joining the Marines. They said I wasn't allowed to. So I became a drug dealer. Better pay, no benefits.

I'm a Cosmetologist. It's not a get "get rich" job and a lot of people treat you like an idiot, but it's fun work. With my license, I can do hair, nails, and skin care. I can work in a chain, own my own business, work in a high end salon, do fashion shows, or work alongside doctors, whichever I enjoy more. With it, I do need to take courses even after receiving my license, hair trends and techniques change and to better serve my clients, I have to stay up to date with them. It costs a lot to attend classes, the TiGi course I took in NY was almost $2,000 for a 3 day class, but some stay in the $300-500 range. In the long run, your training will pay for itself. There are no benefits as a stylist, if you work at a chain, they're required to offer medical insurance options and deduct it from your pay(usually Kaiser), but in an independent salon, you're considered an independent contractor so insurance shopping is all on you.

I work as a sound engineer right now so I'm that person behind those huge consoles in concerts and in the studio. It's a great job that's allowed me to travel like everywhere and meet and work with a lot of interesting people but you also kinda have to be a freelancer to really make money in the music side, not so much in the post production or game audio side but the pay/benefits are shit and when project deadlines come you're spending weeks at the studio without going home. And I've hit that point where I just want a good 9-5 job sooo pharmacy school it is :p
